What is the Smart Save Feature?
Smart Save automatically adds products to a shopper’s wishlist when they view a product page multiple times. This feature addresses situations where shoppers show repeated interest in a product but don’t manually add it to their wishlist or cart.
Example: A shopper repeatedly views a specific product page. They are clearly interested in that product, but may forget or not be in the habit of manually adding items to their wishlist.
Smart Save detects these repeated views and automatically saves the product to their wishlist. This simplifies the wishlist process for the shopper, while still giving them control through an ‘Undo’ option to instantly remove it from their Wishlist if they wish so. Smart Save aims to help shoppers easily keep track of products they are interested in by using their browsing behavior as an indicator of intent. You can then use these auto-wishlisted items’ lists for targeted remarketing campaigns.
This feature also supports products with variants. When such a product is auto-wishlisted, a variant selector appears on the Wishlist. This ensures that shoppers can choose the appropriate variant before adding the product to their cart.
How Does It Work?
When a shopper views a product page three times (you can adjust this number), the product is automatically added to their wish list. A small notification bar appears at the bottom of the screen, confirming this action.
Notification pop-up: The notification interface has a close icon and a sticky behavior where it remains on screen until manually closed. Notifications are also clickable, allowing shoppers to directly open the Wishlist UI.
Wishlist UI: In the Wishlist UI, automatically saved products appear under a dedicated tab called “Saved for you.” This tab features a subtle pulse animation to help draw attention to newly added items.
Undo Option: Shoppers can click “Undo” in the notification bar to remove the product from their wishlist.
Repeated Undo Actions: If a shopper repeatedly clicks “Undo,” they will be asked if they want to continue with the Smart Save feature.
Yes (Thumbs Up): If they choose “Yes,” the Smart Saving will continue, and the system will track their undo actions again.
No (Thumbs Down): If they choose “No,” the Smart Saving will stop for that shopper.
No Action: If they don’t respond, they will be prompted again each time they click “Undo” until they make a choice.
Essentially, we give shoppers control. If they don’t like the Smart Save feature, they can turn it off for themselves.
Key Benefits
Increase Wishlist Engagement – On average, merchants who enabled this feature saw a 3x increase in wishlist actions. Less than 0.5% of shoppers choose to reverse the Wishlist action – indicating the accuracy of this feature’s capability to predict shopper intent.
Improve Re-Engagement Targeting – More wishlist data per shopper, and more shoppers with products in their Wishlists enables better email/SMS remarketing and personalized recommendations.
Frictionless Experience – Shoppers don’t have to manually add items, but they can always opt out.
Easier Product Discovery – Since shoppers have shown interest in these products through repeat visits, they can easily find them all in one place in their wishlist, as well as their “Activities” section in Customer Accounts
How to Enable or Disable the Smart Save Feature
To access the Smart Save settings, follow these steps:
Go to your Shopify Admin → Apps → Swym Wishlist Plus
Go to the Configurations tab
Under Features, click on Help Shoppers Save Favorites
Click Settings on the Smart Save card.
Here you can configure the following:
Set the number of visits before a product is automatically wishlisted (default: 3 visits). For example, if you want to automatically add a product to the wishlist after only two visits, change the number to 2.
Choose the position of the notification (default: top left of the screen). Select if the notification will appear on the top left, bottom left, top right, or bottom right of the screen.
Customizing the Notification Text
The text for the Smart Save Notification can be changed from Configurations → Multi-language Support → Smart Save
In Case “Multiple Wishlists” / “Single Wishlists” Are Enabled
If the store supports multiple wishlists per shopper → The product is added to a new, separate wishlist called “Saved for you”. This helps customers distinguish between items they manually added and items Smart Save added for them.
If the store has single wishlist per shopper → The product will be added to the customer’s main wishlist. However, it will be added in a new tab on their Wishlist page, called “Save for you”, so customers can easily filter and find these items.
