Installation and configuring the Wishlist Plus App on your Shopify Store

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Welcome to Swym Wishlist Plus! This is your quick-start guide to getting up and running.

In today’s fast-moving online world, shoppers often browse multiple times before making a purchase. They explore, compare, and return, and without a way to save the products they love, it’s easy for them to forget what caught their eye.

That’s where Swym Wishlist Plus comes in.

It helps your customers build personalised wishlists they can access anytime, on any device, making it simple to pick up where they left off and complete their purchase.

Setting up the Wishlist Plus app on your Shopify Store is easy and requires no coding. Follow our quick guide to get started.

  1. Navigate to the Shopify App Store page for Wishlist Plus at https://apps.shopify.com/swym-relay and click on the Install button.

  2. Review and approve the permissions on your Shopify Admin, then click "Install"

  3. Once you've installed Wishlist Plus, click on get started.

Step 2: Select the Installation Theme

The first step in the Swym Wishlist Plus setup wizard is to select the Shopify theme where you want the app to be installed.

  1. Select Theme: You will be presented with the option to Install on live theme or Install on dev theme.

    • Install on live theme (Recommended): By default, your current, live theme will be selected. This is the fastest way to get your Wishlist feature live on your store.

    • Install on dev theme: If you prefer to test your setup first, choose this option. If you have multiple development themes, a dropdown will appear for you to select the appropriate one. The most recently modified dev theme will be selected by default.

  2. Review Capabilities: On the right side, you will see a visual list of the core capabilities that will be enabled on your storefront right away. This essential setup includes:

    • Add to Wishlist: Shoppers can save items directly from the product details page.

    • Quick-Save on Listings: Shoppers quickly add favorites right from your collection pages.

    • Instant Access Header Icon: Shoppers can access their Wishlist from your store header menu.

    • Save, Don't Remove: Shoppers can save items instead of deleting them from the cart.

    • Buy Direct from List: Shoppers move items from their wishlist straight to the cart.

    • Share Lists Socially: Shoppers generate shareable links for opinions, gifts, and more.

    • 💡 Please note: This is the essential setup. You can customize all features later from your Analytics or Configurations page after installation.

  3. Click "Install on live theme" or "Install on dev theme" to proceed to the plan selection.

Step 3: Select Subscription Plan and Go Live

This is the final step to activate the Wishlist Plus app on your selected theme.

  1. Choose a Plan: You will be taken to the plan selection page. The theme you selected in the previous step is clearly displayed to confirm where the app will be installed.

    • The plan best suited for your store will be highlighted, but you are free to select any plan that meets your business needs.

    • The Free plan provides basic Wishlist functionality.

    • Starter, Pro and Premium plans include a 14-day free trial.

  2. Click "Select Plan" for your chosen subscription.

  3. Click "Continue with [Plan Name] Plan" (e.g., "Continue with Starter Plan").

The app with its default configurations will now be installed on your chosen theme, and the App Embed will be enabled automatically in your theme settings.

Step 4: Installation Confirmation and Next Steps

Congratulations! You have successfully installed and configured Wishlist Plus.

💡 Please note: If you installed the app on your Live Theme, the Wishlist Plus App Embed is enabled automatically in your theme settings, and the app will be live on your store. If you installed it on an unpublished theme, you must publish that theme for the app to go live.

Upon successful plan activation, you will be redirected to the Insights page (your Wishlist Plus dashboard).

A clear banner on the dashboard will confirm that "Your wishlist app is installed on your store!"

Customize Your Wishlist Experience

After the setup is complete, you will land on the Wishlist Plus dashboard, where you can further customize your setup.

  • Click "View Store" to see how the Wishlist Plus elements look on your store's pages.

  • Click "Manage app" to customize Wishlist Plus settings for product page, collections, wishlist page and cart.

Enabling the App on a Different/Unpublished Theme

To ensure the app's functionality is available on a theme other than your live one, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Themes section in your store's admin.

  2. Locate the theme where you want to enable the app (it can be an unpublished theme) and click Customize.

  3. In the theme customizer, go to the App embeds section.

  4. Find the Wishlist Plus app and enable the App Control Center embed.

Configuration Scope and Manual Transfer

It is crucial to understand the two levels of app configuration:

1. Global (App Dashboard) Settings

  • Scope: Changes made from the app's dashboard (under Settings and Features) are global.

  • Action Required: None. These settings will be automatically applied to any theme where the app is published.

2. Theme-Level Changes

  • Scope: Changes made through the theme customizer (App Embeds) or direct theme code edits are local to that specific theme.

  • Action Required: Manual transfer is required. These changes must be copied over to your new theme.

How to Manually Transfer Theme-Level Changes

You have two options for copying your local configurations:

  • Option A: Theme Customizer Comparison (Recommended for most users)

    • On the original theme, review the changes made to the 'Collections Advanced' app embed and the 'App Control Center' app embed.

    • Manually replicate those identical settings on your new theme using the theme customizer.

  • Option B: Direct Code Transfer (For users comfortable with code)

    • The app's theme-specific settings are stored in the theme file: settings_data.json.

    • Open this file on your original theme.

    • Search for configuration blocks using keywords like wishlist_plus or swym.

    • Copy the relevant code blocks and paste them directly into the settings_data.json file of your new theme.

You're all set! Your shoppers can now save their favorite products and come back to buy what they love.
