Wishlist Picks: bring saved items back to the cart

Learn what Wishlist Picks is, how it shows shoppers their saved wishlist items on the cart page with reasons to buy, and how to turn it on to recover more sales.

What is Wishlist Picks?

Wishlist Picks shows a shopper their own saved wishlist items directly on your cart page, so they see a reason to add one more thing before they check out.

It is off by default. This is true for every merchant, whether you installed Wishlist Plus recently or a long time ago -- you turn it on yourself, nothing changes automatically.

How does Wishlist Picks work?

By default, shoppers see a view called Don't Miss Out. It ranks their saved items by reason, and tags each one with a badge:

  • Low Stock

  • Price Drop

  • Back in Stock

  • Saved for Later

  • Popular

If none of the first four reasons apply to anything in a shopper's wishlist, Wishlist Picks always has a fallback: it shows their Popular items instead, so the panel is never empty as long as they have saved something.

Shoppers can also switch to three other views:

  • Recently Added

  • Price: Low to High

  • Price: High to Low

These three only show if the shopper's wishlist actually has items to sort that way. If a shopper's wishlist is empty, Wishlist Picks hides the view's chip rather than showing an empty panel.

Items lay out as a grid when they fit your theme's current width, and switch automatically to a scrollable row if they don't. This adjusts itself to your theme's own styling, so the exact number of items you'll see before it switches to scrolling will vary store to store.

Matching your store's look

Once the block is live on your theme, open Apps > Wishlist Plus > Cart tab and expand Wishlist Picks. Switch from Mock Preview to Code Editor, click the pencil icon to edit the HTML or CSS, then click Save. Use this to match each item card to the rest of your cart.

How to turn on Wishlist Picks

Turning on Wishlist Picks takes two steps. Both are required -- if you stop after step 1, nothing appears on your live store yet.

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Apps > Wishlist Plus, open the Cart tab, and find Wishlist Picks (under Save for Later pop-up). Choose your theme and click Activate.

  2. Your theme editor opens with the block already added. Find it in the cart page section list, move it where you want it, then click Save in the theme editor.

  3. Preview the cart as a shopper who has saved an item, to confirm it looks right before you move on.

Availability

Wishlist Picks is currently available on every Wishlist Plus plan.

For developers

The block is added on the cart page template. If a store uses a drawer cart or another custom layout, the same items can be shown with custom code: the JS API and REST API return the same data.

Wishlist Picks is powered by a single storefront API call: swat.fetchWishlistPicks(...). It returns four keyed views in one response: a default reason-ranked view plus three sort-based views (recently added, price low-to-high, price high-to-low). The three sort-based views return an empty result when the shopper's wishlist is empty; the default view always falls back to popular items instead of returning empty.

The call accepts optional itemCount and reasonOrder overrides for a custom integration that isn't using the built-in cart block. Both are validated server-side.

FAQ

Is Wishlist Picks turned on automatically? No. It's off by default for every merchant, new or existing. You turn it on yourself in Manage Setup.

Can I choose how many items show, or control the order they appear in? Not by yourself today. The block shows 3 items by default, with reasons in this order: low stock, price drop, back in stock, saved for later. To change the number of items (1 to 10) or the order, contact Swym Support. A developer can also set both per call, using the item count and reason order options in the JS API or REST API.

Is Wishlist Picks included in my plan? Yes. It's available on every plan right now.

Do shoppers need an account to see their saved items in Wishlist Picks? No. Shoppers can save items without logging in, and Wishlist Picks uses the same saved items either way.

Does Wishlist Picks work with my theme? It's built for Online Store 2.0 cart pages, and is tested against Dawn and Horizon-style carts. Preview your own cart after adding the block to confirm it looks right on your theme.

Which languages does Wishlist Picks support? German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Polish, and Turkish.

Can I show Wishlist Picks on other pages, or in a drawer cart? Not out of the box today. The block is only added to the cart page template. A developer can use the same JS or REST API to build a custom version for a drawer cart or another layout -- see For Developers above.
