Login nudge: prompt guest shoppers to sign in and save their wishlist

What the login nudge is, when guest shoppers see it, and how to turn it off or back on from your Shopify Admin.

Why this matters

When a guest shopper saves an item, you get a save you cannot act on. There is no email address attached, so you cannot tell them when the item drops in price, comes back in stock, or has been sitting in their wishlist for a week. The save is also fragile. It lives in one browser on one device, so it disappears when they switch phones or clear their history.

The login nudge asks those shoppers to sign in. A sign-in turns an anonymous save into a customer record you can market to, and a wishlist the shopper can reach from anywhere

This is on by default

The login nudge has been on by default since it shipped in April 2026. It is available on all plans.

What changed in July 2026 is that you can now see and control it yourself. Before that, switching it off meant asking Swym support.

If you have never opened this setting, guest shoppers on your store are seeing the prompt.

What shoppers see

A small prompt with thumbnails of their saved products, a count of items on the wishlist, and a Log In button.

Only shoppers who are not signed in see it. Logged-in shoppers never do, because their wishlist is already saved to their account.

Will this interrupt shoppers

It is built to stay quiet. Four limits apply:

  • It only shows to guests, never to signed-in customers.

  • It waits until the shopper has saved 3 items, so it never greets a first-time visitor.

  • It shows once at 3 items, then once more at 5 items with a slightly different message. Twice is the most a guest can see in one session, and only if they keep saving.

  • It closes itself after two minutes if the shopper ignores it, and they can dismiss it at any time.

In practice a guest only sees it after showing real interest by saving several products.

Turn it off or back on

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Apps > Wishlist Plus.

  2. In the left menu, click Configurations.

  3. Under the Settings section, click Help Shopper Save Favorites.

  4. Scroll down to Boost Wishlist Engagement. You will notice Login nudge under Features.

  5. Untick the box to turn it off. Tick it to turn it back on.

  6. Click Save in the bar at the top of the page. A Saved Feature Settings confirmation appears at the bottom of the screen.

The change applies to your storefront right away.

To check it yourself, open your store in a private browsing window, add three items to a wishlist without signing in, and watch for the prompt. Use a fresh private window each time you test, because each milestone only shows once per session.

Where it appears on the page

The nudge follows the alignment you have set for wishlist notifications. To change it, open your theme editor, go to the Wishlist App Embed block, and set Notification alignment to left, center, or right. The default is left.

This setting moves all wishlist notifications, not just the login nudge. The wording of the prompt and the button label cannot be changed from your Shopify Admin.

Measuring the effect

There is no report showing how many shoppers signed in because of the login nudge. Nothing in Analytics breaks it out.

If your Analytics page has a Shopper Identity and Engagement section, it shows how many shoppers you have identified, how many of them have wishlists, and how many emails you have sent them. Those counts cover every shopper you have identified, however it happened, so they move for reasons unrelated to the nudge. Not every store has this section yet.

Related settings

Boost wishlist engagement shows tooltips and toasts explaining how the wishlist works. It is separate. Turning it off does not turn off the login nudge, and it does not need to be on for the login nudge to work.

Wishlist nudge popup shows a popup on the product page encouraging shoppers to save items. Also separate, and it shows to all shoppers rather than guests only.

SmartSave has its own position setting that applies only to SmartSave notifications.

You can run any combination of these. Several at once means more prompts competing on the same page, so most stores keep it to one or two.

Languages

The prompt is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and Polish.
