Understanding the Swym Ecosystem
The most important distinction to understand is that Swym offers a suite of separate applications. While they can work together, they are distinct products.
Feature | Wishlist Plus | Back in Stock Alerts |
Primary Function | Allows shoppers to save items for later. | Allows shoppers to sign up for restock notifications. |
Installation | Separate install via Shopify App Store. | Separate install via Shopify App Store. |
"Notify Me" Button | Not included. | Core feature. |
Price Drop Alerts | Available (paid plans). | Not included. |
Automation | Wishlist reminders. | Restock alert emails. |
Independence | Can be used without Back in Stock. | Can be used without Wishlist Plus. |
Note: Installing Wishlist Plus does not automatically add a "Notify Me" button to your store. You must install the Back in Stock Alerts app separately to enable this functionality.
How Back in Stock Alerts Work
The Shopper Journey
Discovery: A shopper visits a product page where a specific variant (e.g., Size: Medium) is out of stock.
Subscription: A "Notify Me" button appears. The shopper clicks it and enters their email or phone number.
Detection: Swym monitors your Shopify inventory. When the inventory for that specific variant moves from 0 to a positive number, a trigger is created.
Notification: Swym sends an automated alert to the shopper.
Conversion: The shopper clicks the link in the message to return to the store and complete their purchase.
Trigger Logic & Specificity
Alerts are highly specific to ensure shoppers only receive relevant information.
Variant Specificity: Subscriptions are tied to variants, not the base product. If a shopper signs up for "Blue / Large," they will not be notified if you restock "Red / Large."
Inventory Trigger: The primary trigger is inventory moving from 0 to any positive number.
Manual vs. Auto: * Free Plan: Alerts must be sent manually from the Swym dashboard.
Paid plans: Alerts are sent automatically (typically within 2 hours of restock detection).
Free plan: Please note that for newer installs, the Free plan is not offered at the moment.
What does NOT trigger an alert: Price changes or restocking a different variant than the one subscribed to.
Setup & Configuration
Installation Steps
Install: Search for "Swym Back in Stock Alerts" in the Shopify App Store and install.
Enable App Embed: Navigate to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize. Under App Embeds, ensure the Swym Back in Stock toggle is ON.
Onboarding: Complete the in-app checklist to initialize the button on your storefront.
Testing the Setup
To verify the app is working:
Set a product variant's inventory to 0 in Shopify.
View the product on your live site; the "Notify Me" button should appear.
Register a test email.
Increase the inventory in Shopify.
Verify the email arrives (or trigger it manually in the Swym dashboard if on a Free plan).
Customizing Communications
You can edit the look and feel of your alerts via Dashboard > Emails > Back in Stock Alert.
Sender Identity: On Pro plans and above, you can use your own branded sending domain.
Testing Templates: Use the "Send Test Email" button located in the top right of the email editor to preview your design.
Integration with Wishlist Plus
If you use both apps, they share data to provide a better experience, but this can occasionally result in multiple emails if not configured correctly.
Shared Intent: If a shopper wishlists an out-of-stock item, they are interested. If they also click "Notify Me," they have two separate active subscriptions.
Preventing Duplicates: To ensure a shopper doesn't get two emails for the same restock (one from Wishlist and one from Back in Stock), go to Dashboard > Settings > Alert Preferences and configure the "Restock Alert" logic to prioritize one app.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the "Notify Me" button missing?
Ensure the app is installed, the App Embed is enabled in your theme settings, and the specific variant you are viewing has an inventory level of exactly 0.
Can I import subscribers from another platform?
Yes. You can upload a CSV with the following headers: medium (email/sms), mediumvalue (the address/number), empi (Product ID), epi (Variant ID), du (Product URL), and status (0 for pending alerts).
How do I pause alerts during a warehouse move?
There is no "pause" button. However, Swym only triggers alerts when inventory is set to > 0. Keep your inventory at 0 in Shopify until you are ready to fulfill orders, and no alerts will be sent.
Can I block a specific user?
Yes. You can manage user data via Dashboard > Manage User Data to remove specific subscriptions for an individual customer.
