Adding Customer Preferences to SFS Online and SFS POS

Capture custom customer attributes like sizing, important dates, or preferences in Shopify, and have them surface automatically in SFS Online and SFS POS.

SFS Online and SFS POS can surface any custom customer attribute you've defined in Shopify, things like a wedding date, a due date, or a sizing preference, directly on the customer's profile. Sales associates can then view and edit these fields while helping a customer in store or online. This is done using Shopify's customer metafields, and takes just a few minutes to set up.

Setting up customer metafields

To make a field show up in SFS Online and SFS POS, you'll need to create it in Shopify first. Just follow these 6 steps:

Step 1: From your Shopify Admin, go to Settings.

Step 2: Go to Metafields and Metaobjects -> Customers.

Step 3: Click "Add definition" to create a new metafield.

Step 4: Give the field a name, for example "Wedding Date" or "Preferred Size".

Step 5: Directly under the Name field, find the Namespace field and replace "custom" with "swym".

Note: We only show fields defined within the Swym namespace in SFS Online and SFS POS. Fields left under custom won't appear.

Step 6: Select a data type and hit Save.

We currently support the following field types:

  • Single line text

  • Multi-line text

  • Integer

  • Date

  • Decimal

  • True or false

Note: Only "One value" fields are supported. "List of values" fields won't show up in SFS Online or SFS POS.

Where to find these fields

Once saved, your new field(s) will appear on the customer preferences edit screen in both SFS POS and SFS Online, so sales associates can view and update them while assisting that customer.

FAQs

I already have fields in the custom namespace, can I use those?

Not directly. Today we only read fields created in the swym namespace, so you'll need to add a new definition using swym rather than renaming an existing one.

Can I capture more than one value in a single field, like multiple size preferences?

Not yet. Each field needs to be set to "One value"; "List of values" isn't supported.
