Wishlist Plus adds three main Swym UI Components to your store: a wishlist icon on the product cards on your collection pages (PLP), a Header Launch Point that opens the wishlist from anywhere on your store, and an Add to Wishlist button on your product pages (PDP). This guide shows you how to place and style each one, starting with settings that take a few clicks and ending with optional code for developers.
Wishlist Plus settings are in the Wishlist Plus app in your Shopify Admin, at Shopify Admin > Apps > Wishlist Plus. Settings that control where things appear in your theme are in your Shopify theme editor.
Before you start
Before you start
Make these checks before you change anything. They take a couple of minutes and prevent most "my change didn't show up" moments.
1. Confirm Wishlist Plus is on for the theme you're editing
Go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds and make sure App Control Centre is switched on for the theme you're editing, and that Storefront UI Elements is switched on too if it's listed. If either is missing or won't stay on, see "Theme and App Embed checks".
2. Check that your theme supports app blocks
Online Store 2.0 themes, including Shopify's current free themes, let you place Wishlist Plus blocks directly in your product template. If your theme is a vintage theme from before Online Store 2.0, contact Swym support for the best way to set up Wishlist Plus.
3. Check which Wishlist Plus components your store has
Go to
Shopify Admin > Apps > Wishlist Plus > Configurations.Under Features, click Help Shoppers Save Favorites.
Click Settings on the Wishlist button card. The Customize Wishlist Plus window opens on the Product Page tab.
Check what you see:
An Advanced Button option means your store has the newer PDP button.
A Launch Point tab means your store has the newer header icon and Quick Save for collection pages.
If either is missing, Swym support can switch the newer components on for your store.
4. Know which changes follow your store, and which belong to one theme
Where you make the change | Where it applies |
The Customize Wishlist Plus window, on tabs that don't ask you to choose a theme (for example, the Basic Button settings) | Every theme where Wishlist Plus is active |
The Customize Wishlist Plus window, on a tab with a theme dropdown | Depends on the field: on the Collections tab, the whole tab is per-theme. On the Launch Point and Advanced Button tabs, some fields are per-theme and others apply storewide; each section below says which. |
Your theme editor: App Embeds and app blocks | Only the theme you're editing |
Your theme's code files | Only that theme |
[Note] Switching to a new theme? Theme-level customizations don't move across on their own. See "Configuration Scope and Manual Transfer" in Install and Configure Wishlist Plus App on your Shopify store for how to copy them over.
[Pro Tip] Customize a copy of your live theme first. Go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes, open the ... menu next to your live theme, and choose Duplicate. Customize the copy, preview it, then publish it. A duplicate keeps the theme-level Wishlist Plus settings of the theme it was copied from.
Collection pages (PLP)
Collection pages (PLP)
This section covers the wishlist icon on the product cards in your collection grids: how it gets there, and how to change where it sits and how it looks.
Choose your collection page setup
Wishlist Plus can add the PLP icon in three ways. Most stores use Quick Save.
Setup | How it's added | Best for | Where to customize it |
Quick Save (also called the Advanced Collections button) | Automatically, from the Wishlist Plus app | Most stores. It's the current default, and it supports Privacy-First Wishlist. |
|
Collections Advanced app embed | Switched on in your theme editor's App Embeds | Stores already using it, or that need its custom icon image option |
|
Manual (Liquid code) | Added to your product card template by you or a developer | Themes or third-party product grids where neither option can attach | Your theme code |
[Warning] Use one automatic setup at a time. If Collections Advanced is switched on, it replaces Quick Save's icons entirely rather than just taking priority over them, so switch one off before relying on the other.
Set up and customize Quick Save
Go to
Shopify Admin > Apps > Wishlist Plus > Configurations.Under Features, click Help Shoppers Save Favorites.
Click Settings on the Quick save card. The Customize Wishlist Plus window opens on the Collections tab.
Under Theme Selection, choose the theme to customize.
If you see "Advanced Collections requires theme-level activation," click Activate Collections. Wishlist Plus sets up your theme for you; wait for the "Collections Page Buttons enabled successfully!" message rather than expecting your theme editor to open.
Tick Enable Quick Save Button. To remove the icons from your collection pages later, untick it and save.
Adjust the settings in the table below, click Save, then refresh your storefront.
Expected outcome: a wishlist icon appears on every product card in your collection grids, and shoppers can tap it to save a product without leaving the page.
Setting | What it controls |
Icon Type | The icon shape: Heart, Star, or Bookmark. Changing it rebuilds the icon from the built-in templates. |
Button Position on tile | Which corner of the product card the icon sits in: top right, top left, bottom left, or bottom right of the tile. |
Icon Color | The color of the icon's outline. |
Icon Thickness | How thick the icon's outline is. |
Show Social Count | Shows the number of times the product has been wishlisted by all shoppers. |
Enable circular background for collection icon | On by default. Adds a white circular background behind the icon so it stays visible on busy or dark product photos. |
If your theme isn't recognized. Wishlist Plus recognizes many popular themes automatically. If it can't recognize yours, a banner says your theme's selectors weren't recognized, and two fields under Theme Integration need filling in:
Product URL Selector: the CSS selector for the link to the product inside each product card.
Button Container Selector: the CSS selector for the element the wishlist icon should attach to, usually the product card itself.
To find these, see "Finding CSS selectors".
[Note] If your collection grid is built by a third-party app, such as a product filter or search app, that app controls the product card markup, and Wishlist Plus may not be able to attach to it automatically. Use the manual setup, or ask that app's support team about adding the wishlist button.
Products that load later. Quick Save also adds icons to product cards that load after the page opens, for example after a shopper filters, sorts, or scrolls to load more products. There's nothing extra to set up.
Set up and customize Collections Advanced
Go to
Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds.Switch on Collections Advanced, then click the arrow beside it to expand its settings.
Use its settings for a custom icon image, the icon's thickness and size, and the variant selector, which lets shoppers choose an option such as a size or color before saving.
If the icon doesn't appear, fill in the Manual Setup fields:
Product Tile Selector, for example
li.grid__item.Product Link Selector, for example
a.product-card__link.
Click Save in the theme editor.
If your store uses different product card markup in different places, such as collection grids and recommendation sections, you can enter more than one selector in each field, separated by commas. Wishlist Plus pairs them up in order: the first Product Tile Selector with the first Product Link Selector, the second with the second, and so on, so use the same number of entries in both fields, listed in the same order.
For a full field-by-field reference, see Customize Collections Wishlist Icon and Variant Selector Settings.
[Note] Collections Advanced settings are saved in that one theme. Products that load later, after filtering or infinite scroll, may need an extra script. See "Initialize Wishlist Buttons (For Dynamic Content)" in Troubleshooting Wishlist Button Issues.
Hide the icon on specific products
Add the product tag swym-wl-disabled to any product you don't want shoppers to save. You'll find the Tags field on the product's page in Shopify Admin > Products. The tag hides the Quick Save icon for that product, hides the Basic Button on its product page, and stops Smart Save from adding it automatically. The Collections Advanced embed doesn't read this tag.
Style the PLP icon [Developer / Advanced Customization]
Quick Save code editor. On the Collections tab, switch the preview from Mock Preview to Code Editor. You'll see three tabs: Before HTML (the icon before the product is saved), After HTML (the icon once it's saved), and CSS. Giving each state its own HTML is the most reliable way to show different colors for saved and unsaved products, because the Icon Color setting colors the icon's outline in both states.
Keep these placeholders in your HTML so the icon keeps working:
Placeholder | What it provides |
| The button's accessible label. Keep it in the button's |
| The accessible label once the product is saved. |
| The number of times the product has been wishlisted. Required while Show Social Count is on. |
| The color from the Icon Color setting. |
| The thickness from the Icon Thickness setting. |
| The corner chosen in Button Position on tile, as a CSS transform value. Keep it inside a |
{{PRODUCT_URL}} (the product's link) isn't in the default templates, so there's nothing to preserve there unless you've added it yourself.
If you remove the color or thickness placeholders, the matching setting is greyed out until you click Reset to Defaults to restore them (this also replaces any custom CSS you've added, so copy it somewhere safe first). If Show Social Count is on and your HTML is missing {{SOCIAL_COUNT}}, saving is blocked with "Cannot Save: Required {{SOCIAL_COUNT}} placeholder is missing in Before HTML!" until you add it back in. If you see "Form Settings May Not Apply," your HTML no longer matches a built-in template, so position, color, and thickness may not take effect until you reset.
Manual and classic icons. For icons added with Liquid code, or by the older storefront script, target these classes in your theme's CSS:
/* PLP wishlist icon, before the product is saved */ .swym-button.swym-add-to-wishlist-view-product { transform: scale(1.2); /* make the icon 20% larger */ } .swym-button.swym-add-to-wishlist-view-product:after { color: #555555 !important; /* unsaved color */ } /* The same icon once the product is in the shopper's wishlist */ .swym-button.swym-add-to-wishlist-view-product.swym-added:after { color: #c8102e !important; /* saved color */ }The icon itself is drawn by Wishlist Plus's own script as a character in :after, so the color rule needs :after and !important to override the built-in color, as shown above. For the full manual setup and button markup, see Adding the Wishlist Button to Your Collections Page through Liquid.
[Pro Tip] Manual buttons don't read the swym-wl-disabled tag. To hide a manual button on tagged products, wrap it in {% unless product.tags contains 'swym-wl-disabled' %} and {% endunless %}.
Launch Point
Launch Point
The Header Launch Point is how shoppers open their wishlist from anywhere on your store. This section covers choosing a launch point, setting it up, and customizing its item count badge.
Choose how shoppers open their wishlist
Launch point | What shoppers see | Count badge | Set up from |
Header | A wishlist icon in your header, next to icons like Cart and Account | Yes, optional | The Wishlist Plus app, Launch Point tab |
Floating Button | A button that stays on screen as shoppers scroll | Yes, optional | The Wishlist Plus app, Launch Point tab |
Navigation Menu | A text link in your store's menu | No | Your Shopify navigation menu |
Hand-coded | Your own icon, text, or image in your theme's header code | Your own code | Your theme code |
Open the Launch Point settings
Go to
Shopify Admin > Apps > Wishlist Plus > Configurations.Under Features, click Help Shoppers Save Favorites.
Click Settings on the Wishlist button card to open the Customize Wishlist Plus window.
Click the Launch Point tab.
Under "Where should the Wishlist page launch from?", choose Header, Floating Button, or Navigation Menu.
[Note] No Launch Point tab? Your store uses the earlier layout, where this choice is called Launch From and sits on the Wishlist Page tab.
Set up the header icon
On the Launch Point tab, choose Header.
Select your theme. Changes apply only to the theme you select, and your live theme is marked "(Live Theme)".
Wishlist Plus tries to find your header's icon area automatically, and it recognizes the common layouts many themes use. Two CSS selector fields are always shown, one for Desktop & Tablet and one for Mobile; if auto-detection fails, a message says it couldn't auto-detect your menu layout. Both selector fields are required. In each, enter the selector for the element the wishlist icon should appear next to.
[Note] This choice of Header, Floating Button, or Navigation Menu applies to your whole store, not just the theme you have selected here.
Under Other Settings, keep Show Wishlist Count ticked to show a badge with the number of items in the shopper's wishlist, or untick it to hide the badge.
Click Save, then check your storefront at both desktop and mobile widths.
Expected outcome: a heart icon appears in your header. Clicking it opens the shopper's wishlist, and the badge updates as they save items. The badge hides itself while the wishlist is empty. The icon takes your header's text color, so it matches your other header icons.
Finding your header selector. Right-click your Cart icon and choose Inspect. Move up the HTML from the <a> tag until the highlight covers the group of icons in your header. That element's class is your selector: a class becomes .classname, and an ID becomes #idname. Then narrow your browser window to phone width and repeat for the mobile selector, since many themes use a different header on mobile. For more help, see "Finding CSS selectors".
Customize the count badge
To show or hide the badge, use Show Wishlist Count. It's available for the Header and Floating Button launch points.
By default, the badge is a small black circle with a white number, at the top right of the icon.
To change its color, size, or position, use the header icon code editor, described below.
Set up a Floating Button
On the Launch Point tab, choose Floating Button.
Set Position to Left, Right, Bottom Left, or Bottom Right. Bottom Right is the default. This position, and the choice of Floating Button itself, applies storewide.
Under Other Settings, Show Wishlist Count is ticked by default; untick it if you don't want the badge.
Click Save.
Add a Navigation Menu link
The Navigation Menu option isn't configured in the Wishlist Plus app. You add the link to your menu yourself.
Go to
Shopify Admin > Content > Menusand open the menu shown in your header, often called Main menu.Click Add menu item.
Enter a name, such as "Wishlist".
For the link, enter an address ending in
#swym-wishlist, for example/#swym-wishlist, or your store's full address followed by#swym-wishlist.Save the menu.
Any link on your store whose address contains #swym-wishlist opens the shopper's wishlist when it's clicked. The link uses your menu's own styling and has no count badge.
Header icon code editor [Developer / Advanced Customization]
On the Launch Point tab, with Header selected, switch the preview from Mock Preview to Code Editor.
Each of the three tabs below opens read-only. Click the pencil icon to unlock a tab before editing it.
Tab | What it holds |
HTML (Button) | The markup for the icon itself. |
HTML (Count Bubble) | The markup for the badge. It must include |
CSS | The complete stylesheet for the header icon and its badge. |
Click Save All. Changes apply only to the theme selected on the tab.
[Warning] Whatever you save in the CSS tab replaces the header icon's built-in styles, rather than adding to them. Edit the rules that are already there instead of deleting them, and keep a copy of the original CSS before you start.
The built-in styles use these classes:
Class | Element |
| The clickable icon link |
| The container that positions the badge |
| The badge itself |
For example, to change the badge colors, edit only the color lines inside the existing .swym-header-icon-count rule:
.swym-header-icon-count { /* keep the other lines in this rule as they are */ color: #ffffff; /* number color */ background-color: #c8102e; /* badge color */ }Hand-coded header icon. If you'd rather build the header icon into your theme code yourself, see Adding the Wishlist button to your header menu using a code snippet.
Product pages (PDP)
Product pages (PDP)
The Add to Wishlist button on your product pages is usually the first place a shopper saves an item. This section covers choosing your button, placing it relative to Add to Cart, and styling it.
Choose your PDP button
Button | What it is | Where to customize it |
Basic Button | The standard Add to Wishlist button, placed for you near Add to Cart or on the product image | The Wishlist Plus app, Product Page tab |
Add To Wishlist Button app block | The standard button as a block you place yourself in your product template | Your theme editor, in the block's settings |
Advanced Button | A fully customizable button with its own HTML and CSS. Privacy-First Wishlist needs it. On newer stores it's switched on automatically with no block to place; on others, it's added as the Swym Wishlist Button block. | The Wishlist Plus app, Product Page tab, plus your theme editor if your store uses the block |
To open the PDP settings:
Go to
Shopify Admin > Apps > Wishlist Plus > Configurations.Under Features, click Help Shoppers Save Favorites.
Click Settings on the Wishlist button card. The Customize Wishlist Plus window opens on the Product Page tab, showing Basic Button and, on stores with the newer components, Advanced Button.
Position the button relative to Add to Cart
Basic Button. Under Button Position, choose a tab and an option:
Tab | Options |
Near cart button | Above Cart Button, Left of Cart Button, Below Cart Button (the default), Right of Cart Button |
On product image | Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right |
Add To Wishlist Button app block. Go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize, open a product page, and select the block. Set Button Position to Default; Product Image (Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, or Bottom Right); Product Title (Left or Right); or Add to Cart Button (Left or Right). Fine-tune it with Vertical Offset, from -25 to 25 pixels, and Occupy Full Width, which is on by default.
Advanced Button. If your store has a Swym Wishlist Button block in its product template, drag it to the spot you want, such as directly above or below Add to Cart. Either way, choose a Button Position on the Advanced Button tab (this field is per-theme):
Button Position | Where the button goes |
Inline with Product Details | Near the title, price, or Add to Cart button |
Overlay on Product Image | As an icon over the main product image |
Product Title | Next to the product title |
Custom Placement | Next to any element you choose, using the required CSS Selector field |
[Note] If the button disappears after you move it onto the product image, your theme's image markup may not be recognized. Try a different placement, or see Troubleshooting Wishlist Button Issues.
Style the button
Basic Button
Appearance: Solid, Outline, or Plain.
Button Text: separate wording for before and after saving, for example "Add to Wishlist" and "Added to Wishlist". Choosing Left or Right of Cart, or a position on the product image, switches the button to icon-only regardless of this setting.
Social Proof: shows the number of times other shoppers have added the product to their wishlists.
On the Advanced Button tab, Button Text and Social Proof are the same storewide fields listed here; they aren't separate per-theme settings.
Add To Wishlist Button app block
Display Button Text: shows the text, or hides it to leave just the icon. On by default.
Customize Hover Behaviour: when on, gives the button separate styling while a shopper hovers over it. Off by default.
Custom CSS: your own CSS for this block.
Advanced Button: set Button Text on the Advanced Button tab, then use the code editor, described below, for colors, fonts, borders, and layout.
[Pro Tip] Selling in more than one language? Set the button's wording for each language at Shopify Admin > Apps > Wishlist Plus > Configurations > Multi Language Support.
Switch to the Advanced Button
On the Product Page tab, select Advanced Button.
Choose your theme from the dropdown, usually your live theme.
Click Activate Button on Theme Editor. The theme editor opens in a new browser tab.
Find the Swym Wishlist Button block, drag it where you want it, and click Save.
Return to the Wishlist Plus app. It checks automatically for about a minute; if it doesn't pick up the change, click Retry.
Expected outcome: the Advanced Button replaces the Basic Button on your product pages.
To switch back, remove the Swym Wishlist Button block in the theme editor and save; Wishlist Plus returns to the Basic Button automatically, and your Advanced Button code stays saved in case you come back to it.
[Note] On newer stores, the Advanced Button is already active with no block to place or remove. If that's your store and you need to switch back to the Basic Button, contact Swym support rather than looking for a block, since the setting isn't surfaced in Shopify Admin.
Advanced Button code editor [Developer / Advanced Customization]
The Advanced Button tab has three code editor tabs:
Tab | What it holds |
HTML (Before Click) | The button before the product is saved. |
HTML (After Click) | The button once the product is in the shopper's wishlist. |
CSS | Your styling. |
Each tab opens read-only to prevent accidental edits. Click the pencil icon to unlock a tab, make your changes, then click Save All.
Keep these placeholders where they apply:
{{WishlistAddCTA}}and{{WishlistAddedCTA}}insert your Button Text for each state. They're required whenever the button shows text.{{SOCIAL_COUNT}}inserts the number of times the product has been wishlisted. It's required in your Before HTML whenever Social Proof is on; saving is blocked until it's there.
Common CSS declarations, added inside the existing rules in the CSS tab:
background: #ff0000; /* button background color */ border: none; /* remove the border */ border-radius: 8px; /* rounded corners */ font-family: inherit; /* use your theme's font */
If your custom HTML no longer matches a built-in template, the default layout options are switched off. Click Reset Defaults to delete your custom HTML and CSS and go back to the built-in versions; back up anything you want to keep first. Advanced Button HTML and CSS are saved to the theme you selected; Button Text and Social Proof are storewide, as noted above.
Other PDP options
Hide the button on a product. Add the product tag
swym-wl-disabledto hide the Basic Button or the Add To Wishlist Button block on that product's page. Some themes store the tag on a different Liquid object thanproduct, such ascard_product; if the button doesn't hide, check which object your theme uses.
